Fields Medals and MSU

The Fields Medal is a prize awarded to two, three, or four mathematicians not over 40 years of age at each International Congress of the International Mathematical Union, a meeting that takes place every four years. The Fields Medal is often viewed as the top honor a mathematician can receive.

Laureates from MSU

1970 - Sergei Petrovich Novikov.
Graduated from MSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics. Proffessor of MSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics.

1978 - Gregori Aleksandrovich Margulis.
Graduated from MSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics.

1990 - Vladimir Gershonovich Drinfel'd.
Graduated from MSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics.

1998 - Maxim Lvovich Kontsevich.
Graduated from MSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics.

2002 - Vladimir Aleksandrovich Voevodsky .
Studied at Moscow State University (Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics), received Ph.D. in mathematics from Harvard University.

2006 - Andrei Yuryevich Okounkov.
Graduated from MSU Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics.
