LMSU Graduate School of Innovative Business (faculty) was established in 2006.

The mission of the Graduate School of Innovative Business (GSIB) is to prepare highly skilled experts in the field of natural resources’ management for the enterprises of fuel and energy complex, geological-geophysical exploration of oil and gas deposits, and also in the field of chemical processing of hydrocarbon raw material.

Graduate School unites the resources of different faculties of the University and adapts the classical university educational programs to the changing needs of economics.

The main layout of the education process is two year full-time Master Degree Programs and additional education programs.

The Graduate School of Innovative Business offers four Master Degree programs:

  • Geological and geophysical exploration of oil and gas deposits (MSc in Geology);
  • Geological and geophysical exploration and modeling of hydrocarbon fields (MSc in Geology, tuition in English);
  • Chemical processing of hydrocarbon raw material (MSc in Chemistry);
  • Natural resources management (MSc in Management).

Each program includes a course in advanced English, which could help the undergraduates to translate freely scientific and technical texts, to conduct business correspondence and to improve their language of professional dialogue.

Master of Science in Geology:

The main educational program is implemented at the Graduate School of Innovative Business in accordance with the state educational standards for higher education in Master Degree in Geology. The purpose of this curriculum is to train specialists in the field of basic research both on the theoretical problems of Earth Sciences and on the applied problems of subsurface geology, mineral prospecting and exploration, geological engineering issues. Graduates are able to independently collect geological data, and have the skills of field and laboratory research in the sphere of geological, geophysical, geochemical, hydrogeological, geotechnical, geological, oil & gas and ecological studies. The Master graduate of Geology must understand and implement the theoretical foundations of organization and planning of exploration, and the drafting of geological production works. Graduates may teach subjects in Earth Science cycle in secondary schools and in specialized (professional) disciplines of higher education institutions.

Master Degree Programs (Geology):

Geological and geophysical exploration of oil and gas fields
The purpose of this Master degree program is to educate oil and gas industry specialists with the knowledge of the latest technologies in geological and reservoir modeling, field development, advanced scientific methods of seismic exploration, well logging, enhanced oil recovery, etc. During the course of the training, undergraduates will learn the basics of geological, reservoir models of oil and gas fields, master modern methods of well surveys, get acquainted with high computing technology and modern software for processing and interpretation of geological and geophysical data in the field of petroleum geophysics and geology. Software products include products from the leading oil-producing and service companies.

Geological-geophysical exploration and modelling of hydrocarbons fields (in English)
The purpose of this Master degree program is to educate is to educate specialists of oil and gas industry in the field of modern technologies of geological and reservoir modelling, field development, advanced scientific methods of seismic exploration, well logging, enhanced oil recovery, etc. In addition, special attention during the course of Master training is paid to computer technologies for construction of 3D geological and geophysical models of geological environment and 4D modelling of processes in this environment, and specifics of their application to practical geological problems.

Natural resources management
The purpose of this Master degree program is to educate specialists in the field of natural resource management, environmental management, sustainable development of regions and densely urbanized territories. This educational program includes disciplines of specialization, such as cadastres of natural resources, natural resources monitoring, environmental engineering and environmental expertise, innovative use of mineral resources, legal aspects of wildlife management, licensing, land law, and other. The main emphasis of the training process is in the formation of an integrated multidisciplinary approach to solve the pressing problems in the environmental management and the sustainable development of regions. A particular part of the course is dedicated to the development of experience in management, using simulated models on regional systems in rational wildlife management, training of personal decision-making and team-working skills.

Master Degree Program in Chemistry:
Chemical processing of hydrocarbon raw material
The purpose of the Chemical processing of hydrocarbon raw material Master degree program is to educate broad-minded specialists in the fields of petroleum refining, gas chemistry, petrochemistry, who possess a wide range of interests in these areas including new ecological and technological requirements, and modern issues in fuels, lubricants and petrochemicals production. This course includes fundamentals of modern processing of hydrocarbon raw materials, modern methods of increasing economic efficiency, and the integration of oil refining and petrochemical industries. Particular attention is given to innovative approaches to solving the problem of modernisation of facilities based on the latest developments in science and technology. An important focus in the program is given to the modern methods of determining the quality of products and semi-products in the oil and gas sector. An integral part of the training is the legal frameworks in the field of intellectual property protection, and to the applied computer technologies in science and education. The obtained knowledge will enable to receive information on the latest scientific and technical achievements in the field of oil refining and petrochemical industries.

Training is carried out in cooperation with the Faculties of Geology, Chemistry, Economics and the School of Public Administration and Management of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. Open lectures are given by the main experts of oil and service companies of the Russian Federation, advisers and lecturers of the European Association of geoscientists and engineers and leading foreign universities.

Within the framework of Graduate School the interdisciplinary approach is realized. Thus, the undergraduates of each program have an opportunity to receive in-depth knowledge under all presented courses.

The period of study is 2 years, full-time.

Applicants should have a Bachelor Degree in any subject area. Entrance exams: applicants are required to pass written exam in geology (for MSc in Geology programs) or in chemistry (for MSc in Chemistry program).

Career broadening programs

Additional education programs include both advanced training courses, mainly for employees of the oil and gas industry, and professional retraining programs. As part of the development of business education, the faculty has been implementing the Master of business administration (MBA) program since 2008.

The training programs are designed for specialists with natural science as well as humanities basic education.

The programs are aimed at obtaining the necessary knowledge and skills in the field of entrepreneurial activity, primarily in the innovation sphere. Advance training courses are tailor made and designed for corporate customers, they are aimed at obtaining the necessary knowledge and skills in the field of entrepreneurship, primarily in the innovation sphere.
